Checking, cleaning and minor maintenance are part of the normal maintenance of the trolleys and strollers, but what is included in the weekly basic maintenance and how to do the monthly maintenance of the trolleys? What to do if the carriage fails, or the wheel breaks? Read our Baby Accessories Tips for Carriage Maintenance, Storage and Repair.
Always remember to follow the operating instructions that come with the trolley or stroller to ensure safe use. You can find product-specific maintenance and washing instructions in the operating instructions.
With regular maintenance of the stroller, the same combination strollers will last throughout childhood and can remain in the family from generation to generation.
Maintenance of trolleys and strollers weekly or whenever necessary
1. Dry and wash the carriage body
If possible, always dry and clean the body of the stroller or stroller after use, especially in wet weather. Especially in areas where salting is used in winter and close to the marine climate, it is important to clean the frame at least once a week with a damp clean rag and dry it well so that surface rust does not form on the frame.
The body is carefully cleaned of dust and dirt with water and a mild detergent. To clean the body, it is good to use either a soft sponge or a cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives. For the removal of possible surface rust, you can use, for example, car wax or chrome polish.
2. Clean the fabrics of the carriage
Small stains should be wiped off, for example, with a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm water with a little colourless dishwashing detergent. This way, dirt stains do not get on the materials and the fabrics do not have to be removed and washed as often. To remove more difficult stains, you can use a gentle Springyard Foam Cleaner Cleaning Foam. If necessary, remove and wash the fabrics - see the section “Monthly maintenance of the carriage” for more detailed instructions.
It is important to carefully dry fabrics wet from traces of washing or rain in a well-ventilated area. Keep the canopy up to allow moisture to evaporate
3. Download strollers and carts
At the point when the child is already getting in and out of the stroller and eating a snack while sitting in the stroller, it is a good idea to vacuum away any sand and bread crumbs. This will prevent debris from consuming or staining the surfaces of the stroller. The basket can be removed to make it easier to vacuum and clean.

Monthly maintenance of trolleys and strollers
These instructions are best applied to Emmaljunga strollers and strollers. Manufacturers such as Britax and Cybex have their own trolley maintenance guidelines, which may differ from these guidelines. Always check the operating instructions on how to maintain your trolley.
1. Wagon lubrication: lubricate joints and moving parts
Accessories:
- Water Vaseline
- Sprayable silicone oil or Vaseline spray (Vaseline is more long-lasting)
- White Vaseline
- Compressed air spray
Here you can find the lubricants for the trolleys >>
Instructions:
- Remove the rear tires and wipe the shaft pin clean with a piece of paper. Add a small spout to the center of the rings water-resistant Vaseline and install the rear tires back in place.
- Remove the front tires and clean the axles with paper, as well as remove sand from the tire locking mechanism. At the same time, clean the bearings with compressed air. The rotation of the front tires is assisted when you spray on the end of the body shaft to be sprayed silicone oil or Vaseline spray. Fasten the front rings back.
- Spray silicone oil or petroleum jelly on all joints and joints of the carriage, such as pile locks. Ointments spread better on the joints when, after showering, you “pinch” the joint, that is, you turn it to different positions. For example, the pushrod riveting starts by spraying silicone into the ball joint and adjusting the inclination of the pushrod to different positions for a couple of minutes, so that the oil is properly applied to the entire joint. Let the oil act for a while and wipe off the rest with a soft lint-free cloth. Silicone oil lubricates without leaving surfaces sticky, but the oil can still mess up easily, so watch out for the textile parts of the trolley.
- If the carriage has a brake connected to the tyre centres, carefully lubricate the groove on each side of the brake pedal White Vaseline with each maintenance. Again, “jump” the brake a couple of times on and off so that the petroleum jelly spreads evenly. Leave on for a while and wipe off the rest with a soft lint-free cloth.
2. Washing fabrics for strollers
Clean smaller stains from trolley textiles according to weekly maintenance instructions - this is what you can use Springyard Foam Cleanser with Cleansing Foam. If the fabrics in the pram are in need of a bigger wash, it is possible to remove the fabrics from most strollers for washing. Trolley stall fabrics have a zipper for detaching, while track seat fabrics may have zippers and/or snaps. If necessary, check the operating instructions to ensure that the fabrics can withstand machine washing.
When washing pram fabrics, you should always follow the washing instructions in the original instruction manual for the stroller, which may vary between brands. Dry the textiles thoroughly in a well-ventilated area so that moisture does not remain on them and mold develops.
When washing fabrics, check that all snaps, zippers and any Velcro strips are clean and in good condition. After washing, it is good to treat the fabrics to repel water and dirt. For processing, you can use e.g. Springyard Eco Proofer Protective Spray. Be sure to carefully ventilate the carriage after processing.
3. Maintenance and replacement of trolley tyres
Tyre air pressure
There are two types of tires: non-punctured tires and air rubber tires.
Non-punctured tires are maintenance-free, so they do not need to be subjected to special maintenance procedures. Inside the unpunctured tires are air cells that keep the tires in good condition without pumping. These tires do not need to be checked for tire pressure or holes. Simply clean the stones from the grooves in the tire, and inspect and clean the shaft pins as instructed in section 1.
The pressure on the air rubber tires should be checked monthly - the tire pressure is good when the tire feels hard when trying on your finger. Carts with inflated tires usually start halving when the tire pressure of one or more tires has decreased.
Trolley Tire Filling
When the air rubber tires are too empty, pump air into them. However, never put the amount of pressure on the tire that is stated on its side. The outer rubber can withstand the pressure, but the rims of the tires may fail.
You can pump tires at a gas station, or by hand Emma at the pumpthat works with most air rubber tires.
If the tire pressure of an inflated tire often drops, it is likely that its inner rubber has burst.
- Test the inner rubber for holes:
- Put air in the ring and the ring under water.
- If bubbles come out of the tire, there is a hole in the inner rubber.
- If the inner rubber is broken, you should check the outer rubber for stones, glass shards, and spikes very carefully. Check the outer rubber from the inside as well.
- Replace the inner rubber and/or outer rubber of the tire.
Trolley tyre replacement
If the wheels of the wagon are broken or too worn, they must be replaced. Make an appointment with the service of your nearest baby supply store and we will replace the tyres for you. You can also change the tire or inner rubber yourself at home.
Here you can see the videoin which we advise how to change a trolley tire.

How do I ride a wagon in snow, sleet and other difficult terrain?
Trolley wheels in snow and slush
When wet snow is particularly contagious, it can pack into the wagon's tyres, making it difficult to get around. Snow sticks to tires due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature - when tires move in the snow, snow compresses into the space between the rubber material and the snow, which cools quickly causing the snow to stick to the tires. Pushing becomes heavier because the snow caught increases the friction and resistance of the tires.
In such weather, let the carriages cool outside for about 20 minutes before departure (e.g. on the balcony). You can also spray on the surface of the tires silicone spray reduce friction.
P.s. If none of the means helps, you can consider switching to air rubber tires, which the snow does not stick so delicately to.
Travelling in snowy and slushy weather is also facilitated by locking the front wheels, which rotate 360 degrees, only to point forward, so that the carriages travel more steadily and do not roll over. There are many options for the front wheels of different brands of wagons that make carriage walking easier in winter weather e.g. bigger wheels.
Replaceable wheels for wagons for difficult terrain
Bike sets specially designed for difficult terrain are available, such as Cybex Priam front wheel set for off-roadthat transforms the Priam into solid SUVs with bigger front wheels. Babyzen Yoyo Stroller Front Wheels Get Clicked small skisWhich makes it easier to walk in the snow. Emmaljunga Sento Max, Lux, and NXT90 wagons can be found Emmaljunga Quad Kit Wheels and Axlewith which you can change the front wheels of the wagon to fixed - this way the wheels no longer rotate around their axis, but stay in the same position even on difficult terrain, making steering easier, e.g. in snow, slush and on lumpy forest paths. Be careful when choosing wheels for your Sento, as Sento Max and Sento Lux are equipped with different Quad Kit wheels.

How to keep the carriage in good condition?
Protect strollers from the weather
Store the trolleys in a warm and well-ventilated area whenever possible. This will prevent possible mold and other vegetation from appearing on the surface and lining of the carriage.
Fabrics for strollers are very resistant to UV radiation, but, unfortunately, a non-fading fabric has not yet been invented. Exposing the stroller or stroller to UV radiation from the sun will leave its mark on the fabric, so avoid storing the stroller in direct sunlight for long periods of time.
Rainwater also wears down fabrics, as various chemicals come along with the rain, which the droplets grab on the way down. Rain cover is necessary when outside with carriages with rain regularly. Be sure to remove the rain cover after use to allow the trolley to dry properly.

Here you will find various brands own rain covers, such as Emmaljunga, Britax, Cybex, Stokke and Bugaboo.
Trolley wheel covers and floor protection keep floors clean
Trolley tyres are rubber and contain a variety of chemicals that may react with sensitive floor materials. Traces of new clean tires can also remain on the floors. In use, the tires come with gravel and other debris, so be sure to protect the floors from trolley tires with floor protection or wheel covers - especially if you store the stroller inside the apartment.
Check the size of your trolleys when buying a floor protector to make sure they fit on top of the cover. In the range of children's accessories you can find e.g. AddBaby floor protector measuring 120 x 80,5 cm.
Emma bike protectors fit into tires with a diameter of 23-30 cm, and are convenient for both storage and transportation of trolleys or strollers in the trunk of a car.
