New innovations are entering the world of automotive safety devices more and more every year. The latest innovations focus on safety, environmental friendliness, as well as the comfort of a child and an adult.

“How to make traveling by car with a small child even easier and more comfortable for the whole family?”

Recently, manufacturers of restraint devices have paid more and more attention to the comfort of travel for small babies, and especially to the ergonomics of the baby. One new innovation is that the baby's posture can be tilted to a reclining position in the safety seat.

Ergonomic position of the baby in the safety seat

The baby needs to be protected while in the crate, which may limit the baby's freedom of movement and keep the baby's posture uncomfortably one-sided. The back and hips can easily strain being in a similar position for too long. It is important for the baby to be able to move the body and muscles in a variety of ways, as this helps the baby's physical development. Therefore, it is recommended not to keep babies in the crate for too long a single call.

In addition to this, in the cradle the baby's position is often slightly more seated/elevated. Such a posture activates the baby's abdominal muscles, but at the same time passivates the back muscles, in which case the muscles of the baby do not develop in a diverse way. A more elevated position, especially on inclined car seats may also make it difficult for the baby to breathe, if the baby's head tilts too much forward even when the baby is asleep. Admittedly, modern safety belts make sure that the baby's head remains in place in the neck and head restraint area.

Over the past few years, many safety equipment manufacturers have started designing and manufacturing crates that take better account of the baby's ergonomics. Some manufacturers have added features to give your baby a more reclining and ergonomic resting position. The resting position is especially useful during long trips and when the baby falls asleep in the trough. In many troughs, the tilt can also be used when attached to the trolley, so you do not have to take the trolley with you everywhere.

BeSafe Go Beyond

The Go Beyond stroller from the Norwegian company BeSafe is making history with its new safety mechanisms. The most innovative is the Active Lay Flat™ - active lying position. It automatically shifts the baby's position from a lying position to a more seated position in the event of a collision, which supports the baby's neck better in the event of a collision, providing a safer position to absorb the impact forces. The Beyond seat can be tilted to a reclining position, both when attached to the stroller and on the car's Isofix stand. The BeSafe Go Beyond has also been approved for use on an aircraft. *The seat belt mechanism automatically pushes the tilt angle of the seat to an elevated position if it is hit by a strong force, such as in a collision situation.Read more about the BeSafe Go Beyond Safety Rack from here. >>

Maxi-Cosi Pebble 360 Pro 2

Maxi-Cos's Pebble 360 Pro 2 can be swung in the direction of the door and slide out of the car on the stand, making it easier to place your child in the seat. The Pebble 360 Pro 2 can be tilted to a fully reclining position in the car, whether mounted on an Isofix stand or with a seat belt. The seat belt tilts to the reclining position even when attached to the trolley.

Britax Baby Safe Pro

The Baby-Safe Pro is an incredibly lightweight stroller from Britax, weighing just 3.9 kg. The Ergorecline recline tilt allows the baby to have an ergonomic resting position and a safe journey in the car or in the stroller. The seat can be tilted to a fully reclining position in the car when attached to the Britax Vario Base 5Z tripod, as well as in the carriage.

Cybex Cloud T and Cloud T Plus

Cybex Cloud T is the latest version of Cybex's own safety tray. The design of the Cloud T trough looks like a soft cloud (as the name implies) and is comfortable for the child. The Cloud can be turned in the direction of the door with the Isofix dock and can be tilted to a fully reclining position when attached to the trolley. The Cloud T Plus also features breathable mesh fabrics and a mesh window in the canopy.

*Resting position refers to a position that approximates a recumbent position, but slightly more elevated than a full recumbent position. **The Active Lay Flat™ Safety feature lifts the child to a more elevated sitting position that provides better support for the neck in the event of a collision. ***Full reclining position in the car and 6 recline positions only with Britax Vario tripod.

Isofix tripods facing the door

The seat belts mentioned in this manual can be attached to the car with the car's own seat belt or with the Isofix stand. When using the Isofix stand, it is easy to attach the safety tray to the car: once the stand is ready in the car, I can attach the tray to it with just a couple of clicks. When using the stand, many innovative functions come into play, such as safety devices that can be turned in the direction of the door.

Door-facing safety belts and car seats have been a big hit in the safety equipment sector in recent years. When the restraint is turned in the direction of the door, it is easy to put the child in the seat and adjust the harness, as well as lift off - making transition situations with the baby faster and smoother.

Isofix stands with a swivel function have recently been introduced with new innovations. An example of this is the Maxi-Cos Family Fix 360 Pro tripod, which also slides the safety device outward from the car. This way the parent does not have to crouch inside the car or in the mouth of the door banging his head.

*A handlebar lock means that the restraint cannot be turned face to face until the child is tall enough and/or moves to use the car seat.

Also take into account

All the safety belts mentioned in the blog can also be installed without an Isofix tripod, directly on the car seat belt. Then all the above-mentioned safety trough features may not be available.

All safety troughs mentioned in the blog have been approved according to the latest i-Size R129 safety standard. Learn more about safety requirements for car seats and safety seats from here.

When choosing a trough, please note that the amount of tilt/tilt angle of the trough depends on the model of the car and the volume of the seat. For example, is there room in the back seat of the car to tilt the seat cushion to a full reclining position.
